Professional transport utility for dimensioning multi-homed signaling associations and predicting failover recovery times based on RFC 4960 retransmission parameters.
SCTP association sizing estimates how many concurrent associations a host can sustain from memory and buffer footprints — essential for SIGTRAN and Diameter platforms that open many peer connections.
The calculator applies the exponential backoff algorithm defined in SCTP standards. It computes the cumulative time taken to mark a path as 'inactive' and the total time until the association is deemed 'unreachable'.
Built on 3GPP Technical Specifications, ensuring accuracy for production deployments and security audits.
Calculations specifically designed to identify protocol vulnerabilities and signaling misconfigurations.
Compliant with RFC 4960 (Stream Control Transmission Protocol). Critical for high-availability signaling interfaces such as M3UA, S6a (Diameter), and N2 (HTTP/2-over-SCTP).

If each association averages 64 KB of kernel+app state and you allocate 4 GB to SCTP, theoretical max ≈ 65,536 associations before other limits. Real stacks often hit fd limits (e.g., 1M) or CPU sooner — use the lower bound.
Does not model CPU cost of HEARTBEAT/SACK processing or SCTP congestion across shared NICs. Validate with soak tests on the target OS.
Kernel memory for Transmission Control Blocks, file descriptors, and per-association buffers usually dominate before CPU. SIGTRAN gateways and Diameter stacks often hit fd or memory ceilings first.
Each M2PA/M3UA peer relationship consumes associations (sometimes multi-homed). Rapid peer growth during STP replacement projects can exhaust association tables.
Multi-homing adds path state; additional outbound streams consume scheduling structures. Budget extra memory versus single-homed single-stream peers.
